Lunchtime Discussion on Assisted Reproductive Technologies
Friday, October 22nd, 11:30-12:30pm, in the Fleming Room (in George’s Café). Lunch will be provided.
Learn how Assisted Reproductive Technologies impact different communities, especially LGBQT parents, and what potential impact legal development in this area may have on the future of reproductive rights. Our panelists will discuss the legal intricacies of sperm/egg donation, surrogacy contracts, and Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis.
Professor John Robertson has written and lectured widely on law and bioethical issues. He is the author of Children of Choice: Freedom and the New Reproductive Technologies (1994), and numerous articles on reproductive rights and genetics. He has served on or been a consultant to many national bioethics advisory bodies, and is currently Chair of the Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Karen Langsley has been a solo practitioner in Dripping Springs, Texas since 2004, doing primarily family law with a special focus on LGBTQ family law and Child Protective Services litigation.
Dr. Stephanie Reich is an OB/GYN at Women Partners in Health. She provides women with gynecological and obstetrical care of all types, including high-risk obstetrics.
Dr. Margaret Thompson has a private practice in Austin. During her medical career she has served as Chief OB-GYN and Member of the Medical Ethics Committee of Seton Hospital. She also has a JD from UT Law.
