SUMMARY:Court Access Program
DESCRIPTION:
The Court Access Program is a consortium of legal and social service providers designed to assess whether civil and criminal courts in Travis County are adequately meeting the needs of families who experience domestic violence. The Court Access Program will collect data that will be used to improve the legal process for survivors of domestic violence. The Court Access Program is currently recruiting law student volunteers to attend protective order hearings to collect data, paying particular attention to treatment of litigants and the outcomes of hearings.

The Court Access Program, through the UT Law Pro Bono Program, is seeking students who can monitor Travis County courts during the weeks from March 21 through April 15. Court monitoring sessions will take place from 8am-12pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students are asked to commit to at least one two-hour shift on either a Tuesday or Thursday between 8am-12pm. Students may volunteer for as many sessions as their schedule allows.

There will be a two-hour training at the Law School for interested students on this Thursday, March 10th, at 5pm. We will provide pizza for participants. Students who wish to attend the training should email Elena Yujuico at eyujuico@law.utexas.edu, and should include their availability for either a Tuesday or Thursday court watch session(s) between March 21 through April 15.

For further information contact Susannah Volpe at susannah.volpe@gmail.com.

\n\nIf you need an accommodation to participate in this event, please contact the event sponsor or the Texas Law Special Events Office at specialevents@law.utexas.edu no later than seven business days prior to the event.
