DESCRIPTION:<p>The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice, The Texas Observer, and the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History will host a panel discussion entitled “The Legacy of the Dirty Thirty.” The panel will explore a pivotal period in Texas politics in the early ’70s when a group of lawmakers, known as the Dirty Thirty, challenged the influence of special interest in the Legislature and the power of House leadership.</p>
  <p>Panelists will be Sissy Farenthold, Dirty Thirty member and former gubernatorial candidate; Tom Bass, Dirty Thirty member and former Harris County commissioner; Terry O’Rourke, legal strategist, Dirty Thirty; Ronnie Dugger, founding editor of The Texas Observer. The moderator will be State Rep. Ana Hernandez Luna of Houston.</p>
  <p>The event is free and open to the public.
