DESCRIPTION:<p>Please join <a title="Steven Schulman at Akin Gump" href="http://www.akingump.com/en/lawyers-advisors/steven-h-schulman.html">Steven Schulman, Akin Gump Pro Bono Partner</a>, to learn about pro bono at large law firms and <a href="http://www.akingump.com/probono/probonoscholarsprogram">Akin Gump’s 2015 Pro Bono Scholars Program</a>. The Akin Gump Pro Bono Scholars Program is a two-year program for outstanding law students who want to make pro bono work an important part of their law firm careers. The Pro Bono Scholars are rising second-year law students who work with a public interest organization for at least seven weeks and three weeks in Akin Gump’s Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, or Washington, DC offices.</p>
  <p>Lunch will be served. RSVP by Tuesday, January 20 , on <a href="https://law-utexas-csm.symplicity.com/students/"> Symplicity</a> by selecting the "Events" tab.</p>
  <p>From Nafisa Bringe, ’16: <em>Being a Pro Bono Scholar was both a valuable and rewarding experience. This summer helped me gain a better understanding of what it means to practice law in a variety of contexts and it gave me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. While working for Akin Gump I acquired important skills and knowledge that I was then able to utilize with my work at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid in Austin.</em></p>\n\nIf you need an accommodation to participate in this event, please contact the event sponsor or the Texas Law Special Events Office at specialevents@law.utexas.edu no later than seven business days prior to the event.
