SUMMARY:Unleashed: A Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:
Unleashed: Survivors of Trafficking

Despite the fact that experts estimate that the US is the world’s second largest sex trafficking market, myths and misconceptions about trafficking persist, among them the assumptions:
 - that only foreign nationals smuggled into the US are victims of this insidious crime
 - that victims can simply leave their traffickers
 - that once victims have been “rescued” their lives are immediately restored

This film focuses on ten courageous and gritty women who have survived trafficking, examining the myths about sex trafficking and illuminating the societal factors that contribute to domestic girls getting trapped in the “Life.” More importantly, it presents these women’s stories of the huge obstacles they faced and overcame in exiting the “Life” and offers encouragement to viewers to become involved in addressing this national disgrace.

Q&A with the documentarian to follow.

Snacks and drinks will be provided.
\n\nIf you need an accommodation to participate in this event, please contact the event sponsor or the Texas Law Special Events Office at specialevents@law.utexas.edu no later than seven business days prior to the event.
