    Sign Up for Austin Bar Speed Networking

    Online signup for Speed Networking with the Austin Bar Association starts at 8:00 p.m. tonight and is on a first-come, first-served basis as space is limited!

    On Thursday, September 11, participating Texas Law students will have the opportunity to network one-on-one with members of the Austin Bar Association from a variety of practice areas during several short (8-10 minutes) speed networking rounds. We request that participating students commit to attending the entire speed networking portion of the event (5:45-6:30 p.m.). Please arrive by 5:30 p.m. as the program will start promptly at 5:45 p.m. Dress is business casual. Light refreshments will be served.

    Afterwards, from 6:30-7:00 p.m., Career Discovery Table Talk will be open to all Texas Law students. During Career Exploration Table Talk, members of the Austin Bar Association will be on hand to answer your questions about various practice areas.

    Intro To Public Service Law

    Are you interested in possibly pursuing a career in public service? Come learn about law practice in the public sector. Panelists will discuss their experiences as summer interns and staff attorneys with government and public interest organizations across the country. They will also share strategies and advice for obtaining similar positions. Panelists include Fabiola Flores, '06, Staff Attorney at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid; Raphael Guerrero, Texas Office of Attorney General, Criminal Prosecution Division; Eleanor D’Ambrosio, 3L; and Jessica Johnson 3L.     EJW - Application Period Closes

    The Equal Justice Works Conference & Career Fair is one of the largest public service job fairs in the country and will take place October 24-25, 2014 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Bethesda, MD. The Career Fair features both preselected interviews and informational interviews.

    Online application period closes on Tuesday, September 16, at 5 p.m. for those applying for preselected interviews. For those students who are not seeking an interview and may want to attend the conference workshops and Table Talk only, you may register September 17-October 10, 2014.

    Due to NALP guidelines, 1Ls are not eligible to interview with employers during the Equal Justice Works Career Fair. However, 1Ls may informally talk to employers during Table Talk on Friday and Saturday, and may also apply for the travel sponsorship below.

    Dean Farnsworth has generously agreed to sponsor airfare for several current law students to attend the Equal Justice Works Conference & Career Fair. To apply for a travel sponsorship, please submit your resume, unofficial law transcript, and a brief essay (no more than two pages) describing why you would like to attend the Fair and why you need sponsorship. If you have applied for interviews, please mention that as well. Submit your sponsorship application materials to Nicole Simmons at cso-lclp@law.utexas.edu or drop them off in the CSO (TNH 3.130) no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014.

    The Texas Environmental Law Journal invites all students to a panel discussion of members of the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas as they share their prospective on various environmental practice areas and what a typical day in their practice is like. Learn what you can do now as a student to prepare for a career in environmental law.
