1L LCLD Scholars Program

The 1L LCLD Scholars Program, presented by the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, is designed to strengthen the legal pipeline by expanding the number of opportunities for diverse first-year law students. The program offers you the rare opportunity to spend a summer working alongside attorneys from LCLD Member organizations.

Many of LCLD’s Member organizations hire 1L Scholars each summer. The application period opens on December 1 and will remain open per the Member organization’s discretion. Beginning December 1, all 1L LCLD Scholar candidates should apply directly to summer internships at the LCLD Member organization(s) of their choice. Each Member organization will independently identify, select, and hire its respective 1L LCLD Scholars. All 1L Scholar candidates must be enrolled as first-year law students and in good standing at an ABA-approved law school.

While the hiring process is competitive, we strongly encourage all students to apply to any opportunity of interest because our participating Members select Scholars based on a wide variety of academic and extra-curricular factors.

  • 1L LCLD Scholars Summit: LCLD invites each class of Scholars to this annual event, which includes panel discussions, distinguished speakers, and networking opportunities for the Scholars with LCLD Members and each other. Check back in late winter for the full 2016 1L LCLD Scholars Summit agenda and more details.
  • Substantive Work Assignments: LCLD Scholars spend their summer side by side with attorneys from Fortune 500 legal departments and AM Law 350 law firms.
  • Networking: There is a LinkedIn group dedicated to articles and discussions relevant to 1L LCLD Scholars. All are invited to join.

Please feel free to contact the CSO is you would like one of our counselors to review your application materials.
