Description

This course is for students who are considering practicing criminal law or who would like to learn state law of criminal procedure for the bar exam. The law comes from the Texas constitution, statutes, court rules, and appellate decisions. The course begins with a look at the structure of the Texas system of courts and trials. After considering preservation of error, the course moves through the judicial process: jury selection, trial procedure, charge of the court, argument, punishment hearing, probation, appeal, guilty plea, habeas corpus, and capital procedures. Grades are based on five (or more) objective exams, most of which are taken during class meetings. There is not a "final exam" that covers the entire course.
