Description

In this course, we consider the structural and individual rights components of state constitutionalism in the United States. We focus on a series of central topics in state constitutional law including the nature and scope of state legislative and executive power, the separation of powers, the relationship between state government and private property and conduct, the protection of individual rights and liberties, and constitutional adjudication in the American states. In addition, we will consider key doctrinal and structural differences between state constitutions and the United States Constitution.
