Description

THIS IS A 6-HR. CLINIC. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR BOTH 397C AND 397D SKILLS. Instructors are Clinical Professor William P. Allison and Adjunct Professor Tiffany Dowling. The Clinic is located in the offices of the Texas Center for Actual Innocence, 4.322 of the Connally Justice Center. This is a six- credit, pass/fail clinic. IT IS OPEN TO ALL SECOND- AND THIRD-YEAR STUDENTS. You do not have to have a student bar card or qualify under the student practice act to take the Actual Innocence Clinic. Acting under the supervision of the instructors and staff, 10-12 students screen and investigate claims from inmates in Texas and elsewhere that they are actually innocent of the offenses for which they are incarcerated. If an inmate makes it through our rigorous screening and investigation process, the student or students assigned to the case will participate in the process of exoneration. The Clinic meets each Monday afternoon during the semester from 3:30 to 5:20 to analyze topics in actual innocence law and procedure and to discuss clinic cases. Attendance is required. In addition to selecting the Clinic during Early Registration, students must fill out a short application form that is available in the Student Affairs Office. Those students selected will be notified promptly and asked to confirm their desire to enroll.
