Description
This course will take a hands-on approach to the practice of criminal law and the unique ethics issues that surround it. We will look at prosecutorial ethics including the use and abuse of prosecutorial discretion and discovery obligations in criminal cases. We will also examine the professional responsibilities of defense lawyers including making a good record for appeal and ineffective assistance of counsel. We will analyze the work of prosecutors and defense attorneys in a hypothetical case in order to contextualize criminal procedure doctrine by demonstrating the way in which attorneys apply constitutional and statutory law.Instructors
