Description

The goal of this course is to help prepare students to do the sort of writing judges expect of clerks, briefing attorneys, and, to a lesser extent, litigators. Students will be exposed to actual court documents and will use them to draft memos, opinions, orders, and other similar written product. Assignments will be given weekly but will not generally involve lengthy research projects. The focus will be on improving writing ability. The instructor will work very closely with each student on their writing. Students must apply to be accepted into the class. Application forms are available from the Student Affairs Office and must be returned no later than 4:30 pm, Friday, October 10. While this course is open to all upperclass students, it will be of particular value to second-year students who hope to clerk and who are not at the top of the class gradewise and who are not intending to be Law Review editors. Graded: pass/fail. 2 credits.
