Description

The primary goal of this course is to introduce students to the theories and doctrines of statutory interpretation. Additional topics that we will cover include theories of Congress and theories of the electoral process (i.e., voting rights and electoral structures). There is no substantive area of law that will be our sole focus; rather, the course will emphasize certain core analytical and doctrinal themes in statutory interpretation that arise in a number of distinct areas of law. The central concepts that students take from this course will thus offer wide applicability, and should be useful both academically and professionally.
