Description

Tax and Business Strategy is three-hour advanced tax course that will use spreadsheets and simple algebra to show how tax affects business decisions. I will teach the fundamentals of financial analysis and spreadsheets from scratch. The mathematics is just high school algebra. We will then use the spreadsheets and algebra to illuminate issues across the tax world, including personal investments, choice of partnership or corporate organization, corporate dividend strategy, economics of depreciation, foreign investment and repatriation strategy, executive compensation, real estate and tax shelter analysis, perhaps some estate planning. The casebook by two Stanford Business School professors (Scholes and Wolfson) assigns a number of problems that are solved by algebra. Spreadsheets and algebra give an X-ray view of the economics of tax, whether for the benefit of country or clients. Federal Income Tax is a prerequisite. Also Algebra I.
