Description

Health Policy, Advanced (Interdisciplinary Seminar) This weekly seminar in advanced health policy is intended for students with sustained scholarly interests involving the health care system. The class is open to selected law students and doctoral students in UT Austin's schools of nursing, pharmacy, and social work. The course is taught by a member of the law faculty with extensive health policy experience; senior faculty members from the other three schools will also participate. The class will begin by reviewing key aspects of American health care financing and delivery, the legal governance of the health care system, international comparative health policy, and public health law and policy. After those sessions, the class will turn to current controversies and the current scholarly literature using a "journal club" style. Students will help select topics based on their individual interests, and will assist in presenting them. In addition to exploring ongoing health policy debates, the class is specifically intended to assist students with serious scholarly writing relating to health care, whether original seminar papers (in the case of law students) or preparatory work for doctoral dissertations (for students in nursing, pharmacy, and social work). Consent of the instructor required. This class is intended for advanced graduate students with experience and serious scholarly interest in health policy.
