Description

The workshop will focus primarily on patent prosecution practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO). The course will provide an overview of patent prosecution issues, including the preparation of a patent application and some claim drafting, steps in the prosecution of applications through the PTO, as well as a fairly broad survey of legal issues directly related to patent prosecution. The course emphasizes practical issues encountered in patent prosecution, and how these issues may be addressed. This course is not intended to be a patent bar review course and will not provide a detailed review of the Rules of Practice. Prior knowledge of patents is highly encouraged. Courses strongly recommended to have been completed include: Intro to Intellectual Property, Patent Law (Advanced), or Patent Law; or enrollment in Patent Litigation. Students are invited to call one of the instructors at 536-3035 or 536-3020 with questions about this workshop.
