SMNR: Trade, Environment, & Human Rights

Cross-Listing This writing seminar is designed to explore the linkages between international trade law, environmental protection, and human rights. It will focus on disputes involving environmental and human rights issues in the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the European Union (EU). The first six weeks of class will be devoted to discussion of scholarly articles on specific areas of conflict. During the next four weeks, students will work on their papers and meet with me individually to discuss their progress. The last four weeks will be devoted to student presentations of their papers. Prior coursework in international, environmental or human rights law is helpful, but not required.
