Description

The course will be a review of federal civil rights laws and their purpose.  Students will learn about the different types of claims individuals can bring and the defenses available to the government and its employees.  Topics will include excessive force and police shootings, deliberate indifference and deaths in prisons and jails, the use of the Americans With Disabilities Act, and the different impacts damages and injunctive cases have on deterring future violations.   Actual cases that have been won and lost by plaintiff's.counsel will be debated.  Guest lecturers will include federal judges, prominent defense attorneys, top non profit lawyers and plaintiff's attorneys that have handled significant cases.
