Description
This seminar will consider the changing role of the jury in the civil justice system in Texas and beyond. We will look at such issues as jury selection, the judge as gatekeeper under Daubert, the impact of mediation and arbitration, note-taking and questioning by jurors, jury charges, jury nullification, and appellate review of jury verdicts. Each student is expected to write a research paper on a topic of choice approved by the professor; the final weeks of the semester will be spent in class presentation, discussion, and revision of these papers. Enrollment is limited to 12 students. Rose Spector has 24 years of experience as a judge, including six on the Texas Supreme Court.Instructors
