Description
The Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments have been described as the Nation's "second founding," which amounted to a revolution in the economic, social, and political realms. This course will trace the interpretive development of the Reconstruction Amendments through the modern era both as individual entities and as a collective whole. The following topics will receive particular emphasis: slavery, citizenship, equal protection, and suffrage. In addition to judicial decisions, the readings will draw upon law review articles and other secondary sources.Instructors
