Description

This seminar focuses on issues relating to international trade and foreign direct investment in Latin America. After a brief historical overview, we will look at the role of Latin American countries in multilateral trade organizations such as the WTO; regional agreements such as NAFTA, CAFTA, MERCOSUR, the Andean Community and the proposed Transpacific Partnership (TPP); and bilateral trade and investment agreements. Students will be required to write and present a substantial research paper, and to prepare short reaction papers on the weekly reading assignments. There are no prerequisites.
