City University of New York School of Law Professor Jenny Rivera has been appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to the New York State Court of Appeals. Professor Rivera will be the second Hispanic to sit on the Court of Appeals.
Professor Rivera is the founder and director of the CUNY Center on Latino and Latina Rights and Equality. The principle goal of the Center on Latino and Latina Rights and Equality is to promote law reform scholarship, public education, and litigation in support of civil rights. Rivera is a former administrative law judge of the New York State Division of Human Rights and a former member of the New York City Commission on Human Rights. Additionally, she was the Special Deputy Attorney General for Civil Rights for New York State Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo. Professor Rivera will be speaking at the Center for Women in Law’s 2013 Women’s Power Summit on Law and Leadership in April.
