October Power Lunch Series Featuring Hon. Nancy Atlas
Senior United States District Judge Nancy Atlas, was appointed to the bench by President Bill Clinton in 1995 and sits in Houston, Texas. She served on and chaired the Committee on Judicial Security of the Judicial Conference of the United States from 2005 to 2015, among other judicial committee responsibilities.
Judge Atlas has been active in the American Bar Association and its Section of Litigation as a member of the Section’s governing council and as chair of various committees. She co-founded the Houston Intellectual Property Inn of Court, which now bears her name, and is a member of the American Law Institute.
Before her judgeship, Judge Atlas was a council member of the State Bar of Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, co-chaired the committee that created the Texas Ethical Guidelines for Mediators, and served as a Director and Treasurer of the Houston Bar Foundation. She Chaired the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a gubernatorial appointment, from 1992 to 1995.
Judge Atlas graduated from Tufts University magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, earned a Juris Doctor from NYU School of Law, received that school’s Vanderbilt Award for outstanding service, clerked for a U.S. District Judge, served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, and practiced as a commercial litigator in Manhattan, NY, and Houston, Texas.
