Cheryl Scaboro, Partner, Simpson Thacher
Cheryl Scarboro, formerly an Associate Director in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement and the first Chief of the SEC’s FCPA Unit, is a Partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and a member of the Firm’s Government and Internal Investigations Practice. She represents corporations, financial institutions and individuals in government investigations and other regulatory enforcement proceedings. Cheryl handles sensitive internal investigations on behalf of management, boards, and special committees, and routinely counsels clients on compliance programs, SEC reporting, disclosure and corporate governance requirements.
Cheryl joined the Firm following a 19-year tenure at the SEC, where she led significant investigations involving a broad variety of subjects, including alleged violations of the FCPA, the Investment Advisers Act, issuer accounting fraud and other disclosure violations, market manipulation, broker-dealer misconduct and insider trading.
She earned her J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1989 and her B.A. from University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1986.
David Gerger, Partner, Gerger Hennessy & Martin LLP
David Gerger is the founder of Gerger Hennessy & Martin in Houston and has a national practice in criminal law. He graduated Yale College and the University of Texas Law School (Book Editor – Law Review) and clerked for two federal judges and served as Assistant Federal Public Defender before starting his private practice. The biggest victory is quietly stopping an indictment, but his publicized cases include defending the CFO of Enron; winning acquittal in the BP Deepwater Horizon blowout trial; and – this year, with Ashlee Martin and others in his firm – the acquittal in the Boeing 737 MAX criminal trial. David is a frequent teacher and speaker on criminal law and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers.
Ashlee Martin, Partner, Gerger Hennessy & Martin LLP
Ashlee Martin is a named Partner at Gerger, Hennessy & Martin LLP, a Chambers Band 1 ranked white-collar criminal defense firm in Houston, Texas. Ashlee is an experienced trial lawyer and former federal prosecutor who currently defends individuals and companies in criminal and civil proceedings in federal and state court. She and David Gerger were members of the trial team who defended and received an acquittal of all charges against the Boeing pilot, who was the only person criminally charged in the Boeing 737 Max crashes.
She has been named Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch 2020-2022; National Bar Association “40 Under 40”; and National Bar Association’s Best Advocate of The Year 2022 .
