Biography

Craig Deats has practiced labor & employment law for over 40 years. He graduated with honors from the University of Texas Law School in 1978, and began practice as an in-house attorney, and Supervising Attorney, for the National Treasury Employees Union. He entered private practice in 1984, and became a partner in his then-law firm in 1985. Most recently, he was a partner in the firm of Deats, Durst, & Owen, P.L.L.C. from 2005-2019. He is now Of Counsel to the firm. He has extensive trial and appellate experience in both the state and federal courts. The focus of his practice is representing labor unions, including public sector unions, and individual employees in all types of employment disputes. 

Since 1989, Craig has been board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Labor & Employment Law.  He also served for a period as a member of the State Bar of Texas Labor & Employment Law Advisory Committee, and as a Council member and Chair of the Bar’s Labor & Employment Law Section. He has for many years been selected by his peers to be listed in “Best Lawyers in America” and “Texas Super Lawyers” in the area of Labor & Employment Law.
