James Spindler is the Sylvan Lang Professor of Law and a Professor at the McCombs School of Business. He teaches in the areas of securities regulation, corporate law, tax, and corporate finance. His research focuses on securities disclosure and trading, corporate fraud, corporate governance, and executive compensation, and has appeared in journals including the Journal of Legal Studies, the American Law & Economics Review, and the law reviews of Chicago, Pennsylvania, and Georgetown. Professor Spindler has served as a consultant and expert witness in matters including securities fraud, auction rate securities, monoline insurance, contractual disputes, corporate governance, and securities trading systems.

Prior to joining the University of Texas School of Law, Professor Spindler taught at the University of Southern California. Before entering academia, he practiced in the New York and Hong Kong offices of Cravath, Swaine & Moore in its securities and banking groups. Professor Spindler holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an A.B. in Political Economy from Princeton University.
