Richard J. Segura, Jr. is an Instructor and Supervising Attorney of the Criminal Defense Clinic for the University of Texas Law School, where he has taught since 2000. He is also the Senior Attorney at The Law Firm of Richard J. Segura, Jr, located in Austin. Over the past five years Mr. Segura has also served as a regular instructor for the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA) Criminal Trial College in Huntsville. Before opening his private firm, Segura clerked for the Law Office of Betty Blackwell and the Law Office of Kenneth Schubb, both located in Austin. A local alumnus, Segura earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities and General Business from the University of Texas at Austin and also acquired his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the UT Austin Law School.
Prior to attending UT and opening his private law firm in 1993, Segura worked in the Oilfield Service Industry for Baker Hughes Tubular Services. Starting on the ground floor as a high school student, he was promoted and became the youngest supervisor of oilfield crew members in company history. Eventually, Segura became the manager of international operations in Veracruz, Mexico before finally leaving the company to follow his educational pursuits at the University of Texas. Segura is fluent in spoken and written Spanish.
