Deaths in Custody Project with Texas Justice Initiative – FULL

Students will research deaths in custody and officer-involved shootings. Students will contribute to a report and/or article that will survey state data collection on deaths in custody and officer-involved shootings and recommend best practices. The report follows the summer 2016 debut of TJI’s interactive database on deaths in custody in Texas, which was covered by state and national media.

Organization

Texas Justice Initiative

TJI seeks to build narratives around who is dying in Texas’s criminal justice system, bring attention to the lives that have been lost, and provide a foundation for research toward solutions that will save lives. TJI is affiliated with the Institute for Urban Policy and Research and Analysis (IUPRA) at The University of Texas at Austin.
