Law student volunteers will serve as trial court judges, trial court evaluators, or appeals court evaluators at the YMCA Youth and Government Program’s District Conference, which aims to create an environment in which students can increase their political awareness and understanding while learning the meaning of social action through an actual hands-on experience in government. Trial court judges will serve as the courtroom judges in 90-minute trials between high school mock trial teams. Trial and appeals court evaluators will evaluate student performance, and will be given evaluator packets with the case, program procedures and rules of evidence to review prior to the conference. Additional information about volunteer roles can be found at https://www.austinymca.org/news/ymca-youth-government-district-conference-volunteers-needed.
