Youth Court

Texas Law students train and supervise local middle school students for peer-run trials and participate as mentors to those students who participate in the local Youth Court Program. Youth Court is an alternative discipline program designed to challenge the school-to-prison-pipeline, a national trend whereby children are funneled out of schools and into the juvenile justice system. Youth Court allows the middle school student attorneys and jury members to determine what support systems the defendant needs in order to address the behavior at issue, provide the students with appropriate consequences tailored to a particular offense, and keep students in their classrooms.
