Instructions for Panel Chairs

  1. Thank you for serving as a Chair for a panel at the 2023 Global Summit on Constitutionalism. You will provide an invaluable service to the panel and to all attendees. Your role as Chair is invaluable to the success of the Summit. Thank you!
  2. Audio-Visual Presentations: The University is unable to provide audio-visual assistance for presentations. The rooms hosting Concurrent Sessions are equipped with a projector and HDMI/USB-C connectors. Presenters are welcome to use their own laptop to make use of this equipment, but we cannot guarantee that the technology will cooperate.
  3. Introductions: Please begin your panel at the scheduled time by calling the session to order, then introducing yourself and the subject of the panel, and then identifying the speakers on your panel. If you wish, you may be guided by the program itself, which includes the name and institutional affiliation for each speaker on your panel.
  4. Duration of Panel: All panels are scheduled to run for 90 minutes. Please inform the speakers on your panel as soon as practicable how you will conduct your panel. This includes informing the speakers of the order in which they will make their presentations. We suggest that each speaker be given roughly 12 minutes to deliver remarks. (Co-authors should share this time.) This allocation of time will of course vary according to the number of speakers on your panel. If your panel features a discussant, the discussant should be given sufficient time to make comments on the presentations.
  5. Questions, Comments, and Discussion: After all speakers have made their remarks, the remainder of the time may be used for questions, comments, and discussion. Please invite attendees to participate by raising their hand to ask a question or to offer a brief comment. You may choose to take one question or comment at a time, or to take two or three at once. We leave this to your discretion. You are also invited to ask one or more questions of your own, while making certain to allow attendees to participate.
  6. Closing the Panel: Please conclude your panel on time. It is appropriate to thank the speakers and the attendees. You may also choose to offer some concluding thoughts.

Please Note: The Global Summit team will send an email introduction to connect each Chair with the speakers on her panel. We encourage the Chair then to initiate a discussion among the speakers in order to determine the speaking order and the allocation of speaking time. We suggest that the Chair invite each speaker to circulate an abstract of her paper in order to allow the Chair to make an informed decision on the most appropriate speaking order and to ensure that all speakers are aware of the subjects to be discussed on the panel.
