Launch: The Michael Tigar Papers

The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice and the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin are pleased to announce an event to launch The Michael Tigar Papers. It will take place on September 20, 2018, from 4 – 8:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Please register here.

The event will celebrate Michael Tigar’s career, as we launch a website organized around a digital archive of his papers that he generously donated to the Rapoport Center and the Briscoe Center in 2016. The archive includes documents, photographs, and creative works, as well as video oral histories that the Rapoport Center conducted with him in 2016. The archive speaks to his work as a champion for human rights and social justice in both national and international arenas. You may learn more about Tigar here.

In addition to launching the website, the event will feature a roundtable of individuals who have worked with Tigar in a variety of contexts, including Fernando ChávezBernardine DohrnRobin MardemootooWayne Reaud, and Jordan Steiker; a staged reading of an excerpt from one of Tigar’s plays; and a one-on-one interview with him, conducted by Lois Romano. We will conclude the evening with a reception, with toasts from his family, friends, and colleagues.
