QUALITY OF LIFE

Can’t Get Much Closer…

The Residence Hall is being built on the corner of Dean Keeton and Medical Arts streets, directly across the street from the northeast entrance to Townes Hall. Until someone installs apartments somewhere inside the Tarlton Law Library, you won’t be able to live any closer! That means more than just saved time. It means students will be able to fully embrace the rich array of programs that unfold at all hours in the law school and at the broader university.

The residence hall will be more than just a beautiful building with remarkable accessibility and unbeatable location. It also manages to be loaded with wonderful amenities tailored to the needs of law students. Naturally that includes a coffee shop, but it also means a library-style reading-room-in-the-sky, multiple outdoor gathering spaces (including two roof decks and a spacious courtyard), a gym, and a yoga room.

Keeping Debt Down

For many students, the cost of rent and utilities combined are a serious burden to receiving a premier law school education. Some respond by living far away or in unappealing places. Others borrow to help foot the bill of living close and well. Students shouldn’t have to compromise to receive incredible value—and that’s exactly what the Residence Hall will deliver: a beautiful and appealing residence with attractive rent and utilities included.

Our Timeline & Milestones

July 2022

An Idea is Born

The Law School embarks on the “Road to 150”: a strategic initiative to establish Texas Law as the premier public flagship law school in the nation by the time of our sesquicentennial in 2033. Central to the plan: not only enhancing the excellence of our program, but also increasing its accessibility in the face of national trends running the other direction. As a key step in that direction, Dean Bobby Chesney proposes creation of a residence hall exclusively for law students, directly across from the law school on the site of the old Co-Op building on land that the University of Texas Law School Foundation wisely acquired years ago.

November 2024

The Course Is Set

The U.T. System Board of Regents approves a building plan for the Texas Law Residence Hall and agrees to finance the project through an innovative public-private partnership.

September 2025

Designed for Success

Architectural drawings by Ryan and Stephanie Lemmo of Lemmo Architecture and Design are set for a beautiful building with 340 beds, a mix of studio, and 1- and 2-bed apartments, a fitness center, a roof deck with stunning views of the UT campus and the State Capitol, and an amazing public coffee shop.

March 2026

Groundbreaking

Construction on the new Texas Law Residence Hall begins!

Summer 2028

Construction on the project will wrap up early in the summer of 2028 and we will get ready to welcome members of the Texas Law Class of 2031.

August 2028

The Class of 2031 moves in, as the inaugural residents of our lovely new building.
