The Constitutional Studies Program invites you to LevinsonFest 2022

an online celebration of the scholarship of Sandy Levinson, our founding director, in honor of his 40th year at the University of Texas at Austin.

Why LevinsonFest?

During Sandy’s years-long leadership of the Constitutional Studies Program, he organized innovative scholarly programs, created new platforms to disseminate the ideas of our faculty colleagues, and hosted dozens of visitors on campus for meaningful and enduring faculty collaborations. We are seizing on this occasion of Sandy’s 40th anniversary to thank him for building our Program into what it is today. We will thank Sandy by doing what he does best: discussing and debating the most important and pressing subjects in public law.

What is LevinsonFest?

LevinsonFest will feature roughly one dozen 90-minute roundtable discussions held from spring through fall 2022. Each roundtable will focus on a different subject, bringing together diverse groups of scholars to reflect on Sandy’s scholarly contributions since he first joined UT 40 years ago. From constitutional crises to public monuments to constitutional veneration and everything in between, LevinsonFest will be a journey through our founding director’s immense and influential body of work.

All roundtable discussions will begin with 5-minute comments from each speaker, followed by comments from Sandy. Open discussion among speakers, attendees, and Sandy will follow for the remainder of the session.

How can you attend?

LevinsonFest will be held online. Registration links are included for each panel on the Upcoming Roundtables tab.

All are invited to attend these events. We look forward to seeing you at upcoming roundtable discussions in LevinsonFest 2022!

How can you stay involved?

Panelist papers will be published on the esteemed legal blog Balkinization after each panel. We are thrilled and appreciative to collaborate with Jack Balkin in this way. Balkinization has long been an important home for vibrant constitutional discourse and Sandy’s own blogging on these topics, and we are honored to continue LevinsonFest discussions on the blog.

We look forward to engaging with you through these events and discussions!
