I am a lawyer from Nepal, currently pursuing an LL.M. in U.S. Law for Foreign Lawyers with a Fulbright scholarship. My interests lie in supporting employees and migrant worker access protections under labor and employment law; and enabling local government to fulfill their mandate relevant to this effect. Before attending Texas Law, I worked at People Forum for Human Rights where I provided legal aid to returnee Nepali migrant workers in accessing remedies against wage theft, fraud and other adverse impacts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; and liaised with Nepali embassies in destination countries for the same. After graduating from Tribhuvan University with a B.A.LL.B. (Bachelor in Arts and Law) in 2018, I worked at various non-profits; building interdisciplinary experiences in my field of interest. In my executive board member capacity, I formulated YUWA's policy against workplace sexual harassment. Likewise, I assisted Nepal Leadership Academy in drafting its Human Resource and Labor Policy. And through the Daayitwa Campaign, I facilitated evidence-based capacity development trainings for campaigners calling for stronger policy implementation related to right to employment. I plan to invest academic and professional learnings from U.S. into strengthening formal and alternate access to justice mechanisms against labor, employment, and other human rights violations in Nepal.
