2023 Visiting Scholar
Research Fellows

Rhea Dittmann is a PhD student at the University of Konstanz (Germany), who joins the University of Texas Law School as a visiting scholar in 2023. After completing her first state exam in 2020, she became an academic staff member at the chair of Prof. Dr. Astrid Stadler for civil law, civil procedure law, private international law and comparative law, where she also worked as a student assistant during her studies. At the university, her work includes not only research, but also teaching case study courses in civil law. Her research project, which is funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation), focuses on the question of whether the German law of damages and evidence has to be modified for cases of complex mass damages. In the thesis, she approaches the issue from a comparative law perspective and examines the determination of damages in the U.S. class action with a particular focus on statutory damages. At the University of Texas, she hopes to gain further insight into the U.S. system.
