David Spicer

Bowden Student Fellows

David Spicer is a second-year PhD student in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), where they serve as President of the Graduate Student Assembly. They graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they served as student body president, with a B.S. in Political Science and from Western Governors University with a M.Ed. in Education Technology and Instructional Design.

David’s research interests examine how the modern use of institutional neutrality in higher education departs from the university’s founding pluralist ideals and instead constrains internal democratic representation, particularly for students. David is an active member of the American Association of University Professors chapter at UT Austin.
