Shelby came to law school with a decade of experience working in nonprofits and government, where she worked in different capacities in communications, policy, case management, fundraising, and organizational administration. Shelby’s prior experiences inspire her to provide direct legal services and work alongside movements to push for change.

During her 1L year, Shelby was a Change It Up! 2024 student planner and volunteered with the Mithoff Pro Bono Program's parole, expunction, driver's license recovery, SPEAK, wills, and immigration service trip projects. The summer after her 1L year, Shelby was a law clerk for the El Paso County Public Defender's Office and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid's Opioid Use Disorder Legal Support Project.

During her 2L year, Shelby served as a board member for the Public Interest Law Association, a Pro Bono Scholar for the Parole Project, and was a student in the Criminal Defense and Housing clinics. The summer after her 2L year, Shelby worked in the Alamosa office for the Colorado State Public Defender.

Shelby, currently a 3L, is an Immigration Clinic student and is a Pro Bono Scholar for the Parole Project. She is plans to work as a public defender upon graduation.
