In partnership with Texas Global at UT Austin and the American Councils for International Education, Institute for Transnational Law welcomes 2021 Professional Fellow Dr. Valeriia Melnyk. As a 2021 Professional Fellow in the Institute for Transnational Law, Dr. Melnyk will look at the intersection of international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and the transnational justice process.
Dr. Valeriia Melnyk is a prosecutor at the Directorate for the Supervision in Criminal Proceedings Regarding the Crimes Committed in the Conditions of the Armed Conflict, Prosecutor General’s Office. Her work focuses on analysis and systematization of evidence obtained during pre-trial investigation and judicial review of criminal proceedings over crimes committed in the temporarily occupied territory and amid the armed conflict. She is interested in international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and the transitional justice process.
She holds a Ph.D. in Law from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, a Master’s degree with distinction from the National Academy of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, and successfully finished the Third Specialization Course for Junior Prosecutors on International Criminal Justice and Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters held by the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights. She is the Vice-President of the Ukrainian Association of Prosecutors and a member of the International Association of Prosecutors.
