The Institute for Transnational Law wishes to congratulate Humzah Yazdani on winning Best Draft at the 2019 Texas Transactional Skills Competition on October 5, 2019. The 2019 Texas Trasnactional Skills Competition was held at The University of Texas School of Law on October 5, 2019. Each fall, the Texas Business Law Society hosts the Texas Trasnactional Skills Competition, where law students gain valuable experience cultivating their drafting and negotiating skills, testing those skills against fellow law students in competition rounds. In total, there were 44 participants, including 40 J.D. students and 4 LL.M. students.

Firms that participated in the 2019 Texas Transactional Skills Competition include: Akin Gump; Baker Botts; Bracewell; Coats Rose; DLA Piper; Foley; Gardere; Gibson Dunn; Hunton; Andrews Kurth; Husch Blackwell; Jackson Walker; Jones Day; K&L Gates; Kirkland & Ellis; Morgan Lewis; Norton Rose Fulbright; Orrick; Paul Hastings; Polsinelli; Shearman & Sterling; Sidley Austin; Thompson & Knight; Vinson & Elkins; White & Case; and Winston & Strawn.

Yazdani serves as a 2019-2020 MD Anderson Research Fellow in the Institute for Transnational Law. His research focuses on carbon pricing legislation comparisons. In addition to serving as a research fellow in the Institute, Yazdani is also a Fulbright Scholar from Pakistan pursuing a LL.M. in Global Energy, International Arbitration, and Environmental Law.

When asked about his experience, Yazdani observed, “The competition as a whole was fantastic. The fact that there is such a significant presence of the UT Law faculty and of lawyers from the best law firms in the world really speaks volume about the competition. The opportunity for students is extremely valuable; not only do you get to learn/hone your drafting and negotiation skills but you also get to network with the partners and associates from the best law firms in the world, and you cannot put a price on that entire experience. American transactional lawyers are considered to be the best in the world and winning the award of Best Draft definitely gives you a degree of comfort of having your skills validated by the best lawyers in the business.”
