Law School Hosts Heather Jarvis, Expert on Student Loan Repayment

Heather Jarvis, national expert on public service loan forgiveness, spoke at the Law School on February 2, 2018, as part of the Public Service Career Fair, an annual event for nonprofit and government employers from across the country and law students from across Texas.

Many government and nonprofit professionals stand to gain tens of thousands of dollars of student debt relief from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program established by the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007. But program requirements can be confusing, and there are traps for the unwary. In a talk entitled “Public Service Loan Forgiveness in Five Easy Steps,” Jarvis simplified the steps to public service loan forgiveness, including choosing the correct loan repayment plan, and provided information about possible legislative changes to the program.  The audience included university financial aid professionals, current students exploring the program, and government and nonprofit employees who are already in loan repayment and hope to have their loans forgiven.

Jarvis’ talk, her eighth annual appearance the law school, was cosponsored by the Justice Center, the Career Services Office, and the Financial Aid Office.
