Respecting Atticus Finch, and Scout, an essay for the ABA Conference on Professional Responsibility, Memphis, June 2, 2011.  This program centered on a documentary about the book To Kill a Mockingbird and its author.  Monroe Freedman has wisely and pointedly criticized Atticus’s conduct.  I believe, however, that the theme of his defense of Tom Robinson has much to teach us.
