“Salt of the Earth”

Salt of the Earth, from How I Learned to Litigate At the Movies, ABA Journal, 2008. The ABA ran a bunch of short pieces by lawyers describing their favorite movies. I wrote about Salt of the Earth, a magnificent film about striking miners, starring union leader Clinton Jencks. Clint was a real union leader, harassed and prosecuted for his radicalism – yes, he is the defendant in Jencks v. United States. He later attended the University of California at Berkeley – where I met him –and got his Ph.D in psychology. He did research for his thesis in England, and here he is arriving in London. The other man is William Ash.
