Alyssah Gonzalez
Alyssah is a 3rd year PhD student in the Department of Sociology. Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of crime and education, with a particular focus on understanding the effects of hyper-policing on youth within schools. She is currently conducting research on police stop data across Texas, analyzing stop outcomes by race and ethnicity. Additionally, her work has explored access to open records requests in municipal courts throughout the state.
Gonzalez is currently a NICHD Fellow and holds a certificate in demographic training from the Population Research Center. Alyssah completed her master's thesis at The University of Texas at San Antonio by using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health. Her thesis, Connecting Adverse Childhood Experiences to the School-to-Prison Pipeline, explored the effects of multiple childhood traumatic events on youth and their likelihood of experiencing both school discipline and contact with the criminal justice system.
