Amy Rodriguez

Amy Rodriguez (BA 2014 Wellesley College, J.D. expected 2017) will be working as a Legal Intern in the Refugee Representation unit at Human Rights First (HRF) in Houston, TX this summer. Human Rights First is a non-profit, nonpartisan, international human rights organization. Its Asylum Representation program is one of the most successful of its kind in the United States, and HRF has continued to push for reforms in refugee and asylum cases since its contribution to helping draft the Refugee Act of 1980. Amy will be assisting the staff in conducting screening and intake interviews, as well researching the eligibility of potential asylum clients. , These tasks will include traveling to immigration detention centers and the use of her language skills. Amy has previously conducted interviews in Portuguese for a research project while studying abroad in Northeastern Brazil, and is a native Spanish speaker. At UT Law, Amy has participated in the Human Rights Clinic and traveled to conduct interviews in Spanish for a project regarding lead contamination in Argentina. After graduation, Amy hopes to pursue a career in public interest law.
