Guneez Ibrahim is a senior majoring in Design and Sociology, with minors in Arabic and Journalism. Her academic interests include education accessibility for marginalized communities, and she spends her free time teaching English to immigrant and refugee Muslim women in the Austin area. This past summer Guneez interned at Freedom House in Washington DC, where she worked on federal funding for international human rights proposals, as well as conducted research on common themes stemming from the NGO’s lost bids. Her Spring 2018 campaign for Student Body President gained statewide and national attention after receiving attacks for running the university’s first all woman-of-color ticket, and the experience has solidified her commitment to making space for racial minorities across the United States. After graduation, Guneez plans to study law and find ways brands and corporations can be more ethical in their practices. She is currently a member of Texas Orange Jackets, UT’s oldest women’s organization.
