Leonel Mata

Leonel Mata (BS 2015, University of Houston; JD expected May 2018) interned this past summer with Chief Judge Ricardo Hinojosa of the Southern District of Texas in McAllen, Texas where he worked on a variety of civil and criminal cases, and Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) in San Antonio, Texas, where he assisted the family detention team with interviewing detained families, and represented them before immigration judges. At Texas Law, Leo is a Staff Editor of the Texas International Law Journal, a member of the Jessup International Moot Court team, a student in the Human Rights Clinic, and a member of the Rapoport Center's Human Rights Working Paper Series editorial board. During the 2015-2016 school year, Leo participated in the Pro Bono in January trip and was a team leader in the Expunction Clinic. Leo hopes to pursue a career in international human rights law.
