Megha Bahl is an LL.M. candidate (2022-23) at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law with a concentration in Criminal Law. She is a Fulbright scholar from India, and has has been practicing criminal law in India since 2015. Through research and litigation, she has engaged with legal questions underlying incidents of custodial violence, sexual offenses, stifling of journalistic freedoms, and criminalization of the lives of indigenous people and manual scavengers, among others. Before this, Bahl obtained her master’s degree in sociology from the Delhi School of Economics in 2012. Her academic training and continued engagement with organizations working on the democratic rights of people in India have helped her identify the socio-political reasons for the occurrence of crimes and the operation of power that determines access to justice.
