Summer Human Rights Fellows

Miriam Jewell (B.A. in Journalism 2021, University of Texas; J.D. expected 2025) will be interning this summer at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) in Seattle, WA. NWIRP is committed to pursuing justice for all persons, promoting this mission by serving immigrant communities in Washington through direct legal services and systemic advocacy. Miriam will intern in the Removal Defense Unit, representing immigrants who are currently in removal proceedings and at risk of deportation. At Texas Law, Miram participated in the Immigration Clinic for the 2023-24 school year and several Mithoff Pro Bono Program projects, including Family Expedited Removal Management, Expunction, Election Protection with Texas Civil Rights Project, and the ACLU Dress Code Project. Last summer, Miriam interned with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and assisted in defending the civil rights of Latinos throughout the United States. In the fall, she will continue representing immigrants in the Immigration Clinic and will serve as a Mithoff Pro Bono Scholar on the immigration team. She will also serve as Secretary of the Chicano/Hispanic/Latino Law Students’ Association and an executive editor for the Texas International Law Journal. Before beginning her legal career, Miriam completed a year of service, working in refugee resettlement in Syracuse, NY. Overall, Miriam is committed to advocating for immigrant communities and promoting their access to justice, and she plans to pursue a career in immigration law and policy.
