Summer Human Rights Fellows

My name is Natalia Arizmendi and I attended UT Austin for undergraduate where I majored in International Relations/Global Studies with a minor in French. From a young age, I have been interested in the law and how it can be used to help people. I have worked with non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Grassroots Leadership. I am interested in human rights, especially advocating for human rights of underserved/marginalized populations who often have less access to legal resources. Throughout law school I have had the opportunity to be on the pro bono parole team as well as participated in the criminal defense clinic. I am a part of CHLLSA and the Women's Law Caucus.

As an immigrant from Colombia, I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to work in my home country with the Observatorio para la Equidad de Las Mujeres. This organization works to further the status of women in Colombia, specifically in El Valle del Cauca, through education opportunities for financial and personal growth. They also further access for women to reproductive education seeking to further women’s rights and equality. The organization achieves these different purposes through various means which include research and community outreach.
